What is Turmeric Milk?
Turmeric milk recipes have been plastered all over the internet recently and I’m here to tell you there is a really good reason why, it’s effective period. It’s a game changer in my house due to it’s anti-inflammatory properties. I use multiple ingredients to pack a punch with this hot beverage and vamp up my immune system to the max!
When should you drink turmeric milk?
I drink it every morning and night during the cold and flu season and typically at night in the summer months. Your body replenishes and repairs at night so I like to give my body lots of good nutrients that can go to work while I’m sleeping but if you would rather drink it in the morning that’s fine too.
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp ground ceylon cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp honey or organic stevia
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 cup coconut milk
- dash of black pepper
Makes 1 serving
Heat the milk on low to medium being careful not to scorch the milk and bring to a low boil.
Add the remaining ingredients and stir thoroughly
Remove from heat, pour into your favorite mug and enjoy!
For a creamier texture blend the hot mixture until frothy. I typically make a batch that will last me for 3 days (so i make 6x the recipe above) and it’s much easier to put a large batch into my vitamix and blend. Refrigerate the mixture when finished.
If you use box coconut milk I suggest you use 1/2 of box milk and 1/2 of full fat coconut milk, coconut milk to get the full benefits of coconut.
Caution – when first incorporating medium chain fatty acids (coconut) some people experience diarrhea, so ease into it slowly and experiment to see when you can add more into your daily routine, this typically will subside.
