It is no secret that most beauty products these days are filled with harmful chemicals, many of which have not been approved by the FDA for use. Yet they make their way into skincare products every day, and no doubt, some make their way into your home without you being aware of their harmful effects.
While we’re not recommending getting rid of beauty products altogether (because that would just be crazy, duh!) we do think it’s time to rethink your beauty products and come up with healthier alternatives.
Which leads us to this list of super duper easy-to-make DIY all natural beauty products that will leave your skin feeling yummy and your pores toxin-free.
Scented Foaming Hand Soap
2 tbsp liquid Castile soap
15-20 drops of your favorite essential oil
8oz Foaming soap container
Pour filtered water into an 8oz Foaming soap container, leaving enough room for the liquid soap and essential oils (if you pour the soap first you will end up with bubbles when you add the water so pour the water first). Mix everything together and you’re ready to use your organic scented foaming hand soap.
1/8 cup liquid Castile soap
1 cup filtered water
5 drops nourishing oil (sweet almond or avocado)
20 drops of your favorite essential oil
Add water to a bottle of your choice then add liquid soap and nourishing oil. Add about 20 drops of your favorite essential oil and mix it all together then cap bottle and store for use.
Aluminum-free baking soda
3% food grade hydrogen peroxide**
Peppermint essential oil
**For this recipe ensure that you use the right hydrogen peroxide as the cheaper drugstore variety is not safe for ingesting.
Mix 1 teaspoon baking soda with 1 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide then add a few drops of oil and stir. The mixture should form a paste. Brush for 2 minutes then follow with your regular bruising routine.
When starting out with this whitener a daily routine is best then after a week or so when you see results you can reduce to weekly whitening.
Cleansing Facial Wipes
1 tbsp melted coconut oil
2 cups distilled water
5 drops of your favorite essential oil (we like grapefruit for its acne fighting qualities)
Vitamin e or aloe (optional)
Soft washcloths (the kind you find in the baby section of the grocery or department store) or you can cut up a T-shirt, though we prefer the feel of the washcloth.
Pour the melted coconut oil in a bowl then add essential oils and aloe or vitamin e if you’re using them. Stir to combine the mixture then pour in the water and mix again. Add rags to the bowl to soak up the mixture then transfer to an airtight jar and pour the remaining liquid form the bowl onto the washcloths. Cover and keep for up to 4 weeks.
Coffee Brown Sugar Body Scrub
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup coffee grounds qualities)
5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, mixing to ensure the oils are properly mixed with the sugar and coffee grounds. Put mixture in an airtight jar where you can store it for up to 4 weeks.
Be sure to wet your skin when using the scrub as it can be abrasive on dry skin.
